Backbone concept

Because of minimal available space for the elevators on board and the difficulty of getting all the necessary parts to the elevator shaft, it takes a lot of logistic organization and this will result in the need for high involvement of the yard personnel to get the elevator installed on the ship. The backbone concept has a lot of advantages. Prefab units will be used in order to minimize the quantity of elements to bring on board. The design minimizes the number of interfaces between the elevator and the surroundings in which the elevator is installed. This results in less necessary involvement by the yard during installation and no adjustments in the ship construction. The system is plug and play; because of this the elevator can be installed in short time and without the need for scaffolding. Compared to existing prefab concepts this concept makes a very clear distinction between shipbuilding technology and elevator technology.
